    Hi all

have a question, i was at MAD today with Chilly and we had a walk about and a bit of practise, , there was a wind for sure and most targets were a mill or two off the kill. I was missing loads ( as normal ) so we decided to go to the range and see what windage it was from 25 to 45. Chilly uses a Daystate running below mine and as such i thought as my pellet was faster i would have to give it less??? Well this is not the case. We both shot a board at 40 yards and my pellet was double what his was. We tried it at all ranges and found this to be the case. So my question is , even if i am running more faster FPS than him how come i have to give double the windage??

    Your thoughts??

    Rog,

Loads of stuff can have an effect, weight of pellet, shape, change in conditions between shots etc etc.

Were you using the same pellets?

Barrel Rog.....My Mk4 takes at least twice the wind of my Steyr....hence the new barrel:), hopefully it will be sorted when it comes back for the weekend.

Its near to LV now and i am away tomorrow for 10 days, i dont think i am going to have time to get it changed?? Not sure what to do?? Its really annoying. Might snap off my Steyr barrel and stick it on the R10:D. I will send it back anyway and ask JB to look at it again. This is a real pain in the butt!!!

    Shame but there you go

PS. I presume its the twist rate like my centrefire's , 1-8 and 1-12 type thing??

40 odd yards, me 3 inches of wind (off plate) him 1 inch (inside edge!).

He has no excuse for missing!!

How annoying is it?? I think the gun itself is amazing. I love it...BUT this windage thing is a right pain. I need it to be more like the Steyr!!! Either that or i nick another gun!!!

    Rog,

Maybe you have hit the nail on the head.

From today and our conversations, BARREL could well be the cause, but don't jump in and change it, as it sounded like a good one, can you just learn the windage.

Have a GOOD holiday and forget about shooting for a while, and come back with a clear head.

I must admit, i've heard of it before, but every time i've tested against someone that's taking more or less wind, we've found differences in close ranges where the wind couldn't move it by the difference in the shots, let alone the worst case of the two... all the gun's i've owned or worked with someone who's zero'd along side me indoors, outdoors the windage taken has been roughly the same...

thing is, you can be 2-3 1/4MOA out and it's naff all at 25... at 55, it's a noticable chunk, especially if you're paper punching...

cant is also a factor ;)

    Now, now...Rog is a lovely chap! :eek::D

I doubt it'd account for your findings Rog but for academic interest, ballistic coefficient is a factor in windage. Ballistic coefficient is affected by lots of things including the barrel. You'll get different BCs from the same pellet running at the same velocity from different guns.

Double the windage though, with a faster velocity? Nope I think Pete's on to something! :D:p

Thats part of the reason that, when I'm able to, I shoot with the spirit level visible on my gun. Regular checking for level during practice means i get a feel for the way the gun sits and feels when it is level, etc. I'm sure it makes a difference in my shooting and has almost certainly helped on the "unexplained" misses I often had on longer targets. Well worth trying:)
