Managed to get through customs with my TX200 at Heathrow and just waiting to board the plane for LA

My plan is to post regular updates on Twitter and here to let you all know how it's going.

For those of you who are interested, either follow me on Twitter (@briandsamson) or search for hashtag #WFTFNZ

Leanne's going to try to tweet the latest scores as they happen, but with the 11 hour time difference you probably won't want a target by target update :)

When you are standing upside down at the bottom of the world, I wonder if the TX200 feels any lighter than it does here? :lev

Made it to LA but had to take the gun through customs. Air New Zealand said I wouldn't have to, but it turns out they were wrong!

After a couple of tense moments with supervisors being called etc, they've accepted the gun and put it through for the final leg from LA to Auckland.

A tip when taking your gun through LA, never refer to it as a firearm - it's a 'Pellet Gun' or 'BB Gun' - it makes things a little less tense when you call it that :)

Cheers for the good luck wishes - I've also managed to pack all the Team England hoodies and hats in my luggage so at least we'll all look like a team.

Next stop Auckland, New Zealand in about 16 hours time.

Mega Brian. Amazed you got the kit in!

Good stuff on the customs. Was there anything you needed paperwork wise?

They looked at the paperwork at Heathrow - only really looked at the letter I got from Air Arms but they didn't have a clue about what they were looking at.

No paperwork needed for LA - they did ask but I avoided the question and they didn't ask again.

I think what I've gleaned from this trip is that airports don't have a clue about procedures or the law, so the best approach is not to ask questions that could have a no answer. Just speak as though it's already been approved by their head office and they eventually just let you go on your way :)

Glad you got sorted ok LA Brian. Best of luck mate!

From my experience it's quite apt that the airport code is LAX! :)

Ive found the same thing when travelling abroad, except for italy, although they also haven't a clue they do look at it to see how much extra money they can get out of you for 'administration' (cue the god father intro):D

Good Luck Brian, kick butt! :D

Made it through to New Zealand :)

The airport staff here actually seem to know what they're talking about which is a first for the trip so far. No problems at this end, I think they just wanted to have a nosey at the gun out of interest rather than anything else.

Be interesting to see how long it takes to get into the NZ time zone. How much sleep did you manage to get on the flight Bri?
