...came across an interesting thread on www.airrifle.co.za, and am wondering if anyone has ever striped off the black paint from their LONG steel cylinder the conventional way ? As someone on this forum has said, since these steel cylinders only go for around 50 to 75 quid, perhaps soda blasting the black paint off should be a considered option to give it some 'bling' ? Soda blasting not only gently strips off paint, but gives the steel a nice polish finish ... call it the "poor man's titanium wannabe finish"
Stripping the paint off wont make much difference to the weight of the thing, which is what many don't like. That and once you've put the inevitable quickfill on it it's a tad longer than the FT barrels. Steel rusts from what i remember as well
RE: Long Air Cylinder Not claiming that stripping the paint will save you grams Rob ...just talking aesthetics for redundant LONG steel cylinders (without the quick fill), to match those modded LG300s with alu sleeves. ...and anyway, a light oily rag should do the trick...and am not talking gallons of oil so you cant unscrew the damn thing as there is no grip .. ...was also thinking the MEDIUM steel cylinder can also be soda blasted , AND have the quick fill added on this...
Best option is to repaint in a nice gloss silver paint, one tin would do the trick, would look super if done well by someone competent
