The other week I looked at a target and was certain it was at full distance , I checked and checked again and was confidant I was bang on with my range finding at 45 yards ..... dink .

I later found that the target was 35 yards away ( perhaps a 35 mm kill , can't remember ) but even after I looked at the target again I was sure it was 45 yards at least

Sometimes my range finding is pi$$ poor but its rare for me to be 10 yards off on the long ones , I really need to work on a system as atm I do it the hard way ie : Guess the distance :D:D:D Seriously I must think more about mil - dot placement over anything else , the more aim points I can fit in that bloomin kill the better the odds surely . lol

hey ho it's all good fun :)

A narrow tunnelway along trees with a target at the back seems to magnify your assumption/estimation of distance somehow. A dark target IMO always appears further away than a brighter coloured one e.g. white.

Got to go with you there,

Was recently up at the Greyhound Range near Coventry England,

They had artfully set targets in a wooded area out to 60yds, some were three layer foliage through shots, dinged three and was well chuffed to drop 2 out of 5 with a Brocock Contour, standing for all shots,

I think if they had been sprayed white I would have mucked it up,

    Cheers Mate,

    Bernard.

:confused: I rather think that Dave is talking about HFT rangefinding by eye or bracketing. There's no AO or sidewheel on a Bushnell 10x40 to come loose and you don't rangefind by PX in HFT anyway.;)
