    Hi all

I think its time we have to have a good look at the .22 class as although the Springer class is picking up again but with the .22 its getting less and less entries, we have 2 for Tawd Vale and 3 for Rivi and about the same for the other rounds.

Perhaps its time to either knock the class in the head or do like we used to if there s less than 5 entries at each round the trophy doesn t get giving out.

    Any thoughts

    Pete

    .22

Would it be too difficult to have a handicap system so the .22 shooters could just shoot with the rest in the open class if the numbers are not worth having a separate class for. It does seem a bit pointless only competing against 2 or 3 in a class for trophys in my humble opinion.

Pete, in our Gauntlet / Tawd series to save small classes we have only 3.

    open class - typically .177pcp
    junior up to 15
    oddballs - anything not a .177pcp
Oddballs covers spring (any derivative), co2,ssp, multi pump and in any calibre

an oddball can opt to shoot open if they wish, any shooter switching classes mid series gets classed as open.

What Dave says makes sense and also does seem to work.

There isn't any point in having a class which no-one (or very few) support.

Open class, fine. Most people shoot in that anyway.

Juniors, excellent. We have to have this class to encourage youngsters into the sport.

Springers, again if supported by entries it can be run.

Any other class surely has to be justified by the number of entrants.

Perhaps a percentage number justifies whether a class is viable, say 10% of entries. Juniors should be exempted from that requirement.

Please forgive me for going off at a tangent, but how about a Seniors Class to give us doddery old-timers some encouragement? ;)

I think it would be a shame to lose the .22 class, although i know where you're coming from.

It seems everyone thinks they can shoot better with a .177 these days.
I only picked up a .22 last september and have had a brilliant time with it, it's also improved my shooting with .177.
Perhaps the answer is to encourage it a bit more, instead of mocking so much.
Nearly everyone who shoots an airgun started with .22 and most still use one to hunt with.
John Mallows came up with a brilliant idea after the worlds, partly joking but still brilliant, that why not hold a competition that involves shooting all classes, like Triathlon.
    Shooting .177, Springer and .22

Promote the lesser classes or lose them!

    Just to add to above.

Perhaps the TEAM section should be re-thought so that it has to include at least 1 competitor from each class.

    1 open class
    1 Springer class
    1 .22 Class
    1 Junior Class
    1 Ladies Class

This would then encourage everyone from all classes to enjoy UKAHFT.

With those sought of numbers I can't see much point, rather see more prizes for the juniors to encourage them

    Pete,

Suggession, check the last 3 years UKAHFT scores for .22 -V- open average, then handicapp them, IE plus 2-4 points, and include them in the OPEN class.
