Luckily Tony 4Acres and his family got out of this fine, and he even managed to get the gun and air cylinder out. Says something for a cool head and having a boot neatly sorted.

Yep, was travelling home on the M4 after a good day out at the Inters yesterday, with cruse control set to 70mph in middle lane, with traffic in all three lanes.

No warnings at all, only a slight judder of loss of power for about 5 seconds followed by rev counter going off scale 7000+rpm, then erratic when not even touching accelerator pedal. Indicated to pull to nearside lane but when I touched brake pedal it went right down to floor (no brakes), pumped pedal without success. Then made for gap between lorries to nearside lane and onto hard shoulder. Applied handbrake to slow car, and as car was slowing I could see the paint on the bonnet just beginning to bubble. I then knew the engine was on fire, but no smoke or flames could be seen or smelt at that time. Told my wife, that as soon as the car stops to jump out and run to the rear. As she opened her door the flames were coming through the nearside wheel arch. She jumped and ran followed by myself but I remembered to get the EV2 and cylinder out of the boot in passing!!! Not a nice experience, but both safe and well and the car a right-off. :(

The seat of the fire was directly above the fuel injectors but investigations will now have to be carried out!

All fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pump had recently been replaced by BMW at end of last year due to mis-firing.

I was shocked when I got the phone call from Tony yesterday on the way home from the Inters' Hi chris my cars on fire' 1st thought were one of safety and that you were both OK 2nd was get your gun and cylinder out. Unfortunatly an accident on the oppostite carraigeway meant I could not turn around and get your equipment, the tail back towards clevedon was 5 miles long from bristol. Your both OK which is most important and I know that carol was in a bit of shock and hope she is now OK as for cars they can be replaced, don't let BMW riggle out of this one, can't believe the BMW dealership director said it was not their problem. Time for the lawyers to earn their crust I think.:(

I hope your year gets better Tony, not a good start so far with what else has happened.

    Chris

As I said last night, Tony you and Carol be prepared for an emotional reaction in a few days time when the enormity of what has happened comes back and hits you again, as it may do. You've loads of chums on here and in the region so just give one of us a call whenever it suits.

Just think, I nearly took your spare gun home with me, too.

    a bit rough.

Hi Rob, I'm a bit rough mate, still in a lot of pain. 18 fractures in the end, 3 in the neck, 3 in upper back & the top 6 ribs each side. laughing ,sneezing & coughing are a bitch.

The good news is there should be no lasting damage. Had a checkup last week, everything is lined up properly. Another 2 months before I can work

I'm going to miss the GP season this year, really gutted about that, may be able to make the Europeans hopefully.
    :)
