    Hello all,

Firstly, we're genuinely overwhelmed by the support you've given us during this transition. I know there's a few who have had issues but we think we've solved those all now.

So we thought it would be useful to let people know where things are concerning the site.

We are staying with this software. But we haven't finished getting it where we think it should be.

We have had some subtle changes after the move which has left some out in the cold following an old link. They now will see a page telling them how to get back here.

The old forum has been shut down. It's history.

So why did you do this?
The old forum was 10 years old! It was designed for an internet that didn't really have smartphones, pads and other tech that could take photos and videos. It was also designed around server software 10 years ago which has moved on. We could have kept patching and tweaking but we were driving an old vehicle with a lot of bits bolted to it rather than having the best latest engine underneath it and the longer service intervals that we have now.

Ok so does everything now work then?

Almost everything! But there are 2 catches which we didn't foresee (despite doing all our homework beforehand) until it was really too late. Fixing it would have meant more downtime, more items lost, and still wasn't guaranteed to have worked.

The two 'problem' areas were the Calendar and your Albums.

It's not quite as bad as it seems though. All is not lost.

The Calendar is in place now. Yay! As before, if you make thread in the Calendar forum it is automatically placed into the Calendar, which is currently found under Events right at the top of the page just to the right of the Home & Forums & Media buttons. We hope to be able to put this back on the main page as before.
There's new functions on it, like the RSVP system which lets people know if you're going or not. You can also view in Monthly, Weekly, Daily or just in order like before.

What we don't have is a way of getting all the events that were in the future into this new calendar. Arrghhh. Yep, we know, not ideal. So we would like a hand with this. If you've got a spare 2 mins and know of an event that's missing then please start a new thread in the Calendar Events forum and we'll get back to having the best Calendar in the sport in no time. We'll be doing some ourselves when we get 5 mins. If you want data moved from the old existing thread to the new one you create, we can do that for you as well. Just let us know below.

Albums. The good news is we didn't lose any data. That's the good news... Yep, here it comes. The bad news. The bad news is that if you put an album image in a post on the old forum then it won't work here anymore, the image needs to be re-linked to back your album images. We can't say anything but sorry for this, it wasn't something we discovered was unfixable until days in.
For most we're guessing albums weren't used in threads that are current anymore (like sales threads). For others who had pictures of their pets and other assorted non airgun items we're guessing they don't need to be updated either.
For the rest we can help. In the Media (found up top under Media) area is your album. If you've been writing articles and you need to update your images then if you can find the image in your album and on the right hand side is a link generator. Select, Copy & Paste that into your thread and that's it. Done.
If you need us to help, let us know. You can leave a thread link below and we'll get to them 1 by 1 and put the images in and you can tell us if they're in the right place. We will get there. We realise there's people (like Phil) who have a lot of images in some really useful threads that we've mucked up, so we'll work through them and fix them with you because we think they're useful.

Those are the 2 main problems.

    Now the good bits.

Media now is so much more powerful and easy to use. Photos now resize themselves, you don't have to do this. Videos can be uploaded or linked. Yep you can always link anyway but by having them in your media album, and making them viewable to members, members can see other related content in your album without having to go out and find a related thread. Attachments are great for quick things that can be lost when the thread gets buried, media is better for long term images that can still be used as attachments.

Another thing about media is that photos are here. Not on some website that changes their conditions or goes down, or that you lose when you change your internet provider. Now while it's a risk that we could do the same, if you have them in both places, if one goes the other stays. We have daily backups so in that respect we shouldn't lose anything. But going through old threads in the Photos area we have lost quite a bit over the decade we've been running. Hopefully you haven't.

There's so many small subtle things (https anyone?) that make using the forum easier and faster which you're probably not even realising you didn't have before. You can watch the entire forum. You can watch a single forum. Watching means you can even set the board to send an email when something happens in that forum. Which means if you want to hawk Sales or want to know as soon as the UKAHFT or BFTA etc post something you'll get an email without checking the board. But if you don't want an email then you can just get an alert when you visit. Alerts telling you of things you might want to know are found next to your Inbox top right where you'll find PMs. In PMs you can leave a conversation but keep it open should the other party reply.
Oh and we've got Like's. Like Facebook likes. They let someone know you like something. Simple.

If you are still having problems then leave a message below and we'll take you through it. We can even simulate using your personal account (without having access to your private data and password) so we can see exactly what you see.

The next phase is the redesign.

Arggghh they're going to move it all again???

No. We're just going to clean things up. We're going to build a page where you can see all the stuff you want to see quickly, like the Calendar, News and Results, articles etc, much like it was before, without the clutter that gets in the way. At that point we'll probably tweak the colours a little. But we hope to be able to retain this look if you prefer it, as an option.

The philosophy here as ever is we want you to find more things out about the sports we all love doing. It's that simple and we want to keep it that way.

Anyway we hope you're seeing the benefits of the new system but if you're having an issue then just post below and we'll get to it.

    Cheers
    Rob

Yes have to agree - commend the work you guys are putting into it. Getting more familiar by the day, clean and future proofed. Well done.

Not sure if you are taking suggestions or even if its possible, but was wondering is there a way to have a tools and resources tab that links to 3rd party apps, training materials etc. A kind of a one stop page for stuff that gets used regularly? The kind of thing is a link to the like of Chair gun, shot power calculators or even the Windeeze shooting app/trainer that I think Brian produced - obviously appreciate there would need to be permission granted and appreciate they can all be found with a search and favorites set up - but just a thought.

Great work and a big thanks to all the admins and those who helped out - it's one of the smoothest forum changes I've seen.

    Well done.
