Hi all can anyone please tell me what is the best type of paint to use on wooden stocks of beech and walnut and if lacquer should be used as a finish.

Yes mate - if you can't get hi build it will just be re badged as filler primer . Give it a few light coats then rub down with 1200 wet and dry paper and plenty of soapy water
Allow to dry thoroughly then top coat etc etc etc

    hth
