Well after my first post I decided getting used to to a bad design was not the way to go.
So I put my new rifle on a milling machine and milled an angled loading port which allows clearance for the front of the index finger while holding the pellet, it also exposes the end of the barrel.
    Does it work?
Yes it works awesome, it is so much easier to load. Before I found I was distorting the skirt of the JSB express pellet trying to load.

Wow! thats an extreme mod on an £1800 rifle:eek: you have a lot more bottle than me taking a milling machine to it!

It's your rifle you can do whatever suites you best but probably it will be difficult if you want to sell it.

[I think there is a lot to be said for the old adage practice makes perfect :D Instead of reducing the value of of a gun that has had the same loading port since it was first made (I think) Why not practice at loading before attacking the gun with a grinder Nice job tho???

Ah, is that what it's for? I always wondered! :) Thought it was to hold lube or soak up rainwater or something!

Have to agree with most here, my Steyr has to be one of the easiest PCPs around to load.

Fair one, you must have massive hands to go to those lengths. Not many would have the minerals to do that, looks a tidy job. :)

Thats a radical solution, but eh if it works nice one! Don't think I have to guts to do this to the Steyr.

    Steyr loading port from 2012

Well guys , I sent the idea to steyr and if you take a look at the new FT just released, you will see they have done the same ,only on both sides . They say its to aid loading with a scope.
Some people lead , some just follow.

    problem

The problem is that these rifles are not designed for FT . looking back a while you will see purpose designed rifles . IE the Ripley , the GC2 , the NJR . all weatherproof rifles with bolt loading and pellet channels to seat the pellet . all the modern ones need altering as you have done . only snag i can see it is the resale value is caput .UNLESS you can win with it . good luck to you , if you were nearer i would get you to do mine ??? HOLLY:):D

    Got

you must be deformed chris . i cannot decide whether to load over the cocking lever or under . luckily i got hold of a bull pupped steyr which is a lot easier to load ??? HOLLY:)

PS what would be nice is if somebody would make a harder piece of rubber to put around the barrel at the breech to stop me sticking pellets behind it ?
