Hi , all . Could someone tell me what is the difference in an Official UK import and non official Steyr please . I have a non official import which seems to me a little low on shot count . Shoots great and is very accurate . Could the shot count be due to the fact that I have a BSA Goldstar barrel fitted ?
    Thanks for now
    Don

What Model is it and what power are you running at, Also what is the shot count?
You have the best transfer port fitted for shot count, As far as I know the transfer port fitted to uk imports is the only difference
    unless someone knows different

    Hi Don,
Running at 777 (11.32) from a 200 bar fill with 8.44 Jsb's and the black transfer port I think you should be getting approx. 100 shots per fill, maybe a few more, Do you know the guns history?
There are a few very knowledgeable Steyr people on this site who will no doubt be able to point you in the right direction on what to check

    Hi Don,
The 370mm barrel length will not be helping your air efficiency, standard short barrel is 450mm long barrel is 550mm so it will be using more air to get the pellet to 777 fps at the muzzle
I don't know by how much but losing 80mm on barrel length will reduce your shot count

60 shots is bloody awful tbh - I'm sure it can do better than that and at least you have the right port already fitted :)

FWIW my properly-setup LG110 Hunting gives me around 120shots from the same size (short) cylinder but a standard 550mm barrel. It's a bit of a tough one to gauge but I'd guess that shortening the barrel to the length of yours (180mm / 30ish percent) would lose you in the region of maybe 20-25% of the shot count, assuming the rifle is correctly setup; so you'd be looking at ballpark 90ish shots per charge.

My guess is that whoever fitted the barrel (a reputable tuner?) attempted to compensate for the fall in muzzle energy only by adding more striker spring preload, rather than finding the new (higher) ideal operating pressure then setting the reg pressure and striker to suit. If this is the case it'll kill the rifle's efficiency.

I trust you don't still have access to the original barrel..? How are you finding the Goldstar barrel? I had one on my old R10 a while ago, for long enough for me to realise how bad it was and send it back for a refund!

Good luck getting it sorted ;)

Probably nothing to do with your problem ...but have you checked that it isnt leaking air?...one of my steyrs did this....ended up on sixty bar from a full fill and had done less than 50 shots

My LG110 had a pretty poor shot count when I got it. These 2 things sorted it out : Black transfer port AND the reg adjusted properly (ChrisC did this for me, think mine was running around 94-95, adjusted down to around 83-85 I think). All good now.

Chris C sorted my direct import. A bog-standard Challenge HFT. Black port fitted.

8.44 gn pellets, running at 777 fps, I get 125 shots on a 200-bar fill.

Hi Don, Are you shooting Rivi for the UKAHFT?

If so or can get someone to take your rifle i'd be happy to take a look for you.

    Edit. I have 2 Steyrs..
No1 has a jono converted cylinder that gives well over 120 shots per fill.
No2 has a Steyr Quickfill (probe) cylinder that just about gives 90-100 shots.

Both rifles are the same set up (reg pressure/barrel seal/transfer port seal) so i can only assume (without opening the QF and measuring the volume) that the QF has a smaller volume.

Why do you need 100-120 shots?

If you're doing grouping checks or zeroing it's nice not to have to fill the rifle every 5 minutes.

For someone of your level you just don't need to bother;):);)
