You need to get the barrel position just right, the lever holds shut by the probe O'ring being compressed once the lever is fully shut & over centre

If the barrel is too far forward then the lever will close fully but spring back open

If the barrel is too far back then the lever won't close fully at all

That's due to the slightly worn cocking slot which intead of just pushing the cocking pin forward starts to push it sideways, when it stiffens you can push or pull the stabiliser unit to free it. I can be helped by slightly radiusing the cocking pin but the only sure way is to fit a ball bearing race on the end of the pin as Steyr now do to new rifles. Don't be tempted to grease the cocking slot or pin as it will soon make it's way to the hammer.

    Hello mate,

Speak to Spiderboy (on BBS) aka Richard Woods of the MAD club for help he services them and supplies a remedy for this I believe.

He is on holiday at the moment so try his lady, "Where's Molly" aka Jenny ;)

    sticky steyr

Hi Chris just to repeat what Lloyd has said Richard is excellent with sorting the steyrs mine had the same problem as yours .It can be a common problem he has sorted a few with this problem and often it is just the case of the gun needing to be stripped down and having a good service :)
    cheers
