Quick question to all Steyr owners..
whats the lowest possible scope height that can be achieved on a STEYR LG100/110 and with what scope particulars. Due to the shape of the Steyrs main chassis and the barrel in relation to the scope rail, the steyr has a lower barrel than most rifles.. unlike a walther or daystate mk4 etc, just wondering who and what you guys are shooting with scope wise. ??

I know the Steyr is predominantly an FT rifle as opposed to HFT.

It depends on what scope you will be using.....IE objective diameter. Most FTers have the scope fairly highish, mine is around 48mm from centre of barrel to centre of objective. Some will have them much higher. As long as the scope does not touch the barrel you will be fine.

sorry guys its for HFT not FT

    Hi folks,
Dont think I made myself clear enough in my post. Looking for optimal set up on an Hft rifle. Been number crunching for trajectories and zeroes ant it appears a low scope is best but difficulty is getting a scope low on an LG.

    Any tips.

You need to decide on which scope you prefer then fit the lowest mounts you can find.

I fitted a Weaver Nitrex 2 - 10 x 42 on low mounts and mainly use it on 7 mag for HFT, the TR2 ret is superb as is the glass.

Beware Rob that if you go as low as utterly possible to get your 8-12 yarders more together, the 40-45 y shots then require more change in aim point; I think there is an optimum compromise to be made depending on how easy you find rangefinding the long and short ones.

The other thing to consider is that 25mm scope tubes tend to be available with lower mounts than 30mm scope tube models (which tends to be all the higher end ones )

whs .a higher mount gives you closer aimpoints further out .I'm no expert but why people are hell bent on getting them as low as poss easier to judge 8-10 -12 yards than your long ranges.

might take ye up on that

Alright Bob, might take ye up on that, I reckon I could miss just as good with the left as I can with the right! ;)

Not looking to go as low as I can, I'm well aware of ballistics regardless of a scope or not but was just being nosey as to people's perceptions of optimal height for hft on a steyr and with what set up.

    Cheers for all replies though.

Looking forward to getting back to the shooting and seeing folks again.

Bob me and Mr T will be up to see ye soon I hope ;)

even with fairly low mounts on a steyr your stil llooking at around 45mm c2c with scope and barrel which will flatten out your long rangers
