I presume that you are looking at the Sightrons in particular Dave.

Which model you looking at, presume its the S111 range.
I am fancying an FT scope and love the fixed 10x42 S111 Sightrons for HFT (I still have 3) So an obvious choice would be a Sightron or Leup for me. I really like my Burris signature 8x32 but wonder if a sidewheel might be easier.

I would imagine the limiting factor is how well they parallax down to use on close range targets.

If you range on x24, it's almost as good as x40, you just have to decide which end of the focus range you're going to use.
The ranging ability of the scope at low mag. Is more to do with the size of the objective lens.

The 8-32x SIII's can not parallax under 40-45yards, where the 10-50x can go down to 13 yards.

I just drilled a 10mm hole in the objective lens cap old style to give me a bit more depth of field for close shots. At x24 mag I can clearly see down to 8 yards.
