I run an old (96) Vauxhall Combo 1.7D because it will run on home made biodiesel.
The last Labour goverment passed a new law so you can use 2500 litres of bio diesel per year without paying any extra tax or having to declare it.
I buy new clean veg oil ( £1 litre) and put 5 - 10% petrol in it and a dash of Cetane.
I have done over 11,000 miles on it now without any trouble.

petrolprices.com is worth a signup... they send you an email every few days and tell you which local petrol station is cheapest for the fuel you use. You can make the choice then. For really long runs you can find out cheaper refuelling stations or if it's better to tank up from home.

Even my 330d's 40 mpg capability 4 up is not looking cheap compared to a 320d's 60 mpg. I'm glad i junked the mini which needed super unleaded and dropped below 30 mpg as soon as you went near the throttle or the shift. I remember thrashing it back to the dealer for the trade in and reset the mpg with 45 miles to drive. It was in single figures as i entered the forecourt. That was an average :D

Gents, I'm a newbie to hft, what sort of mileage should I expect to cover on average to attend all the nationals?

I know it obviously depends on location but on average?

    Cheers,

    60mpg:eek: Wish i could maintain 30mpg

Probably save £8 a tank with the 15p/ltr off but cost me around £12 to get there. Plus its not the usual decent fuel iot has additves for transportation.

    Hi Ross

it can vary. depends where they are each year, but with me in Pontypool, can be 300-400 round trip for each round, always travel the day before and meet up in a pub with most of the other shooters.

    Hi Pete,

Live quite close to pontypool so will be similar mileage, around the 3500 mark for a full season?

    Thanks for the reply,

    Ross
