I have identified a potential new HFT/FT/plinking/zeroing site near Upavon in Wiltshire. At the moment I am in discussion withthe owner, but before I go too far withthe negotiations I want/need to be able to demonstrate the level of interest from potential customers.

It is intended that a 30 lane course will be set up on the edge of Salisbury Plain in a wooded area and open ground along with a zeroing/plinking range in the open areas. Cost per day will be competitive (set at about the same as other clubs). Existing facilities include a brick built cafe catering for teas & coffes plus simple(egg and bacon butties) meals and snacks (homemade cakes etc) and club room with lavatories. There is potential to seek UKAHFT recognition and to host competitions/meets if support is appropriate. The course may be open during the week as well if enough interest is shown

If you live within 30 miles of Upavon please put your name down if you would be interested in using a site if it was set up at Upavon. This will only proceed if the level of support gives the owner a "warm & fuzzy" feeling that it is worthwhile so please include your rough distance from Upavon and the use you would make of the facility.

Please feel free to post links to this poll on other forums.

It's a bit of a club black hole up there... i reckon with a bit of perservance it could work well... if you look on the club map you'll see what i mean.

Thats about 43 miles from Bristol according to the AA route finder, I do shoot at Old down pursuits from time to time, but most of my shooting is done in Gloucestershire.

So it would be every now and then for me.

    All the best

It also depends on the facilities.

For instance, i travel 45 mins to Weymouth, or an hour to Bisley... i could go to my local club, but it has naff all. My indoor club does me fine some days.

If you're out in the middle of no-where, you may be able to leave a permanent course out, build a sheltered plinking range, etc which may attract people from afar... like i say, it's a black hole up there and i think it's quite a catchment area. I know people from salisbury who shoot in southampton!

Way ahead of you there Rob! That is why I am looking at setting one up there. I need to pursuade the owner that it is a viable prospect though, hence the poll. Thanks for your support everyone, keep the posts coming, and if you are a member on another forum please post links to this poll! I hope that this will be a go-er.

I don't believe it will have too great an effect on the other clubs further afield due to distances they all are from the existing ones. If there is a reasonable response then I think that it may be possible to do.

A bit far for me from Gloucester, but I do like to use different facilities and a change of venu is always welcome. I would use it on occassions. Good luck to you.

Ah well, It was worth a try.

Unfortunately, only 15 takers will not be sufficient to convince anyone that it will be worthwhile setting up the course.

    Back to the drawing board.....

At least you tried. Its a shame ,we could do with a local club. The wilts airgun centre are opening a new internal range in the new year. Will have 50 yard ranges,so hopefully it will have a competitive side.If you dont know its in Devizes.

A shame but knowing how much work a club takes its understandable. Still there's always potential for the future.

Although a welcome addition for checking gun setup it's not a substitute for HFT practice.

Maybe not pete. But im sure we can still sort out comps of one sort or another. Unfortunately, because of work i cant travel on a regular basis. So for people like me it could be perfect.:)

I would have been interested in this as it is only 15 miles from me :D

My normal travel is either 65 mile round trip to Mendip or 130 mile round trip to Weymouth.
