I have a Daystate MK3 that doesn't group very well....it used to, I've had it serviced and batteries replaced but it still isn't very good. I've been using JSB 4.52's and have tried a couple of different variants but to no avail so now I want to do a larger pellet trial.
So...what I would like to know is
    1) How many pellets would give a fairly accurate showing?
    2) Should the barrel be cleaned between tests.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Simon

Yep, 6fps variation over 25 shots.

The problem with trying new pellets is some will need a leaded barrel to group properly, whereas some will prefer a clean barrel, I always choose a pellet that groups well in a clean barrel as it's easier to maintain the accuracy.

Does the rifle now not group with a pellet it grouped well with previously ?? if so what has changed ?

If the rifle has had a full service it might also be worth checking the alignment of the pellet probe as they are renowned for pushing the pellet sideways into the rifling which ruins the grouping

I have only ever used JSB 4.52's. A couple of months ago I began to get a lot of flyers, so sent it off for a service. I have purchased a new scope because I thought that I may be getting parallex error but it made no difference. Last night I changed scopes again, rezeroed at 35yds and it sort of grouped about 8 shots, then it goes off. I even asked someone else to try incase it was me, but the the pellets were hitting HIGH at 40 yds...with a 35yd zero!

What Pressure are you putting into the gun, Daystate can often move zero during a charge at certain pressures due to the cylinder moving the barrel.

I'm sure you've probably tried but has the barrel been cleaned since the issue started?

I have tried 230, 200 and 150 with no change.

Hi Ryan, yes the barrel has been cleaned.

I have just spoken to David at staffordshire Customs where it was service and hes has given me a check list of things to do before I send it back to him.

    Thanks for the help

I learnt something about mu gun last night, My Daystate needed cleaning every 300 shots then a really really good pull through after 900...BUT last night it seemed to like a pull through after only 200 to keep the zero spot on. I am down at Pete's next week so if you fancy going there and pending HOURS there trying different stuff we can mate.

Hope you get it sorted before that mate

Thanks Rog. I'm going to see if I can get there over the weekend, or before! Talking to Dave this morning it may be expensive! The regulator is working ok. I chrono'ed it this morning and there is only an 8fps varience.....all be it runnimg at between 791 and 799:eek: over 20 shots. The problem seems to be the barrel. There are a few things I have to try first......

the fill pressure is on the barrel shroud probably under the scope , 232 is the max working pressure( not the same thing) or put the serial number in to daystate database and you will get the correct fill pressure for your gun :)

Will it make a difference if I only fill to 200 anyway?

well mine says 180 on the barrel but when i shot a string it is most consistent from 150 down so i now fill to 150.

It only has the MFC, but one of the things I have to try is without the barrel band and MFC.
