Yep you are right, that is an artillery piece, more brain failure remembering what did what. Most modern tank guns are more powerful than that and nearly as big a calibre. There have been some tank guns of a bigger calibre.

I hope they had a big safety trace (like about 10km) down range.

At one time my office used to face the test ranges across the car park. When they were firing Chieftain primer charges I used to get showered in plaster bits off the ceiling. We rigged up a meter in my office one day and measured 150db with the window open.

I don’t think they would say anything , if you owned a tank. Lol

I guess the full charge would have knocked you out of your seat...:D
I live about six miles from the Shoebury ranges and when I was a kid some of the blasts from there would rattle the window panes quite violently. I remember one in particular which was extremely loud even at that distance. It gives an idea of the sort of energy involved in these tests.

I spotted JS Ramsbottom added these to their web site yesterday, so on a whim ordered one up for a play

Dead nuts easy set up to my Android phone, left the "radar scatter" (ie sensitivity) to its default "20%" and did a simple 20 shot string comparing it to my Air Chrony Mk3. Set up was the FX sat in front of the Air Chrony and shots taken with the barrel end an inch or so off the Air Chrony, target was a Plumbers Mate filled Steel pellet trap about 3 foot away

The two Chrono's tracked each other pretty well, with less than a +/- 1% deviation in readings between them both

Will continue playing, but at first pass looks like FX may have got it working "good enough"

I nearly bought one myself. But looked at the vids and disnt like that you have to have it so close to the muzzle. Id like to be able to stick it on a tripod, a few ft off the ground and just shoot standers over it or kneelers alongside it. But about 3 ft away from the unit.

I can try that and see what happens

Or you could just use a Combro CB625 to do that too ?

yes it does, in the App there is a "copy to clipboard" button on the screen and then simply email or send to self by some other means if you need the data off your phone

Cheers, id be interested to know what happens. Yes could use my bluechron for that , but dont shoot with it on so not useful practice and it kind of defeats the object of the radar jobbie ..let us know what happens
    Cheers

A friend of mine (Mark the Pilot he loves his gadgets) brought one to the range this morning tried my Steyr over it 785 fps average then on my Bluecron BC 100 average 785 fps
    so it seems OK.

Had a quick, none scientific play today and as you suspected the position is pretty much a few inches under the barrel, we tried a club members FX streamline which he was shooting on a bench off a normal ish height bipod (ie 6 inches or so). Putting the chrono on the table did not get a reading and it needed to be lifted up a few inches to register. Will try something more scientific over the next few days
