Hi all I have a new Challenge FT. Took it to the range today for the first ever shoot. Noticed it was shooting very low on zeroing paper set at 35 yards, even after winding my scope right up. put it across a chronograph and it was only shooting at 4.8 Ft pounds this was with 8.44 weighed JSB. Do any of you more knowledgeable chaps have any ideas. Before I get it sent back Also I noticed a ring of foam around where the pellet is inserted. Is this meant to be there ?.

Is there any air in your cylinder?

The foam should be there, and if the gun feels ok then I'd have a quick look at where the probe seals to the breach, it would not be the first time a 5p O ring sent a gun back to the dealers, get a torch and look just inside it.

I'm also assuming you filled it correctly, turned up the power adjuster at the rear, and gave the barrel a good clean before first use?

    Hi
The foam ring is to help when loading and should be there
You can adjust your power on the power adjuster at the rear of the action. Clockwise increase the power and anti-clockwise reduces the power

Is there such a thing as a German spec. i.e. 6fpe rifle getting to the UK by mistake?

I own a Steyr Challenge and have had no problems. Is your rifle an official UK import? What colour is the transfer port? If you bought the rifle from new then it is likely that the port will be green.

Yup filled correctly. Surely it should come to me with the power adjuster set correctly, not for me to have to do this. The certificate that came with it says, it is shooting at 16J and has a tight group at 50Mt using 7.87gr Schultz Exact Express

It should come set roughly right. I'd advise contacting where ever you bought it from first before doing anything.

Is it a new gun you've just used for the first time.

I am going to return it to the dealer, but was hoping not to have to. Don't know if this could be the problem, I have attached a pic of the transfer port.

That foam shouldn't be there should it, looks like packing to me.

Ignore the above post, it clearly SHOULD be there.
That transfer port from the photo you've posted looks like it hasn't got an O ring fitted. Can you confirm this has one fitted to it, if it hasn't this is your cause of the power drop.

The foam will squash down a little with use, but it should be there.
That transfer port looks suspect to me it should be black metal with green inset O ring, cant see properly but the hole looks too small.

    Indeed foam should be there...

The o-ring is there its just an optical illusion because its green.

I would say the rifle is the 6ftlb version and or incorrectly setup for the UK market.

The Green colour is correct for 16J ,but in the picture the hole looks like smaller than 2-2,2mm .
Before you return the Steyr, try to measure the Inside Diameter of the TP.
A simple way if you don nt have a lot of tools try with a drill or you can try with an 2mm allen key..Looks like the Hole, same with the gold TP for 7,5 J ??

I was told they use the green in the UK and set the reg so it cant be wound up in power too far beyond the limit. Keeps the uk government bods happy?

A friend of mine very recently bought a new FT Challenge 16j from Steyr UK and his T/P was too small.
