A good turn out today, for this months comp, with victims coming from afar afield as Rotherham or some such place, and with those Northerners came their icy Northerly blast. With an air temperature of about three degrees and a brutal 15mph wind, it felt more like minus ten, but with everyone wrapped up and with grease lined bellies, they looked reasonably happy. Until they started shooting that is! I'd like to say all I could hear was dink, dink, dink, but it was more like rustle, thud, woooosh, with more donuts than a krispy creme drive thru. Everyone had fun, everyone got annihilated, other than Paul Wetton that is, who mastered the wind from the start. Some say it was down to skill, some say he managed to avoid eating the legendary "Bainbridge meat effect burger", all I know is that he slaughtered all that stood before him. Results below. Out of the forty odd people that shot today, only four of them got the free stander and such were the conditions, that half of the rest of the pack didn't even make metal!
So did Alex, then went on to say something about its was the only target he'd donuted and it was something to do with my presence.
Me & Karen thoroughly enjoyed our visit to MAD & thanks to all for the warm welcome. Due to Karen's first victory of the year over me the already long 3 hour drive home felt a lot longer - more like a long-haul flight! It seems that my enquiry on another post about the availability of "growlers" at MAD may have caused some confusion. For the record, in Yorkshire a "growler" is a pork pie! Thanks from me to Anwar for the company & Karen sends a big hug & thanks to the lovely Jean.
Going into Tescos and walking up to one of the checkout girls and saying "Would you show me your growler please, as I'd like to eat it?" will probably get a different reaction in this area.
That was a cold but fun day, realy hate those short targets though. Thanks to Jenny (or should I say Axel) for her company and sorry for dragging her down to my level. However. I now know everything I need to know about anal bleaching and the use of a Dremel.
Wow what a day very tough condition to shoot and Rich always puts out a hard course. I just need to get used to the 9015 (New gun). Always a great place to shoot hft must be the hardest palace in the uk. My shooting buddy was great. Nice to meet you Steve. Oh Ian made a nice egg are cheese burger. Thanks Ian. Regards Anwar
I was chuffed to be one of the "Famous 4" who killed the stander today, then the curse of Doppa struck as I shot the next target and hit the fence as he walked past.. Great shoot, well done to Ed Small who shot his first ever comp (had never shot prone before either) and scored 25 with his .22 springer, and is getting involved to do more with his Son "Logan". Nice to meet the visitors from "up north", love your enthusiasm and friendliness. Was a good day.
I meant to take a few photos today so we could reminisce about our time down south but I only managed to take one in the club house:
"Due to Karen's first victory of the year over me the already long 3 hour drive home felt a lot longer - more like a long-haul flight!" That was the idea!! It was lovely shooting with you Karen, we had a great day and a good laugh!!! So glad you and Steve decided to drop by and hope that you will come and shoot some more of MAD's "easy" courses in the future!!! I think I am beginning to get the hang of Richard's devious mind when it comes to setting courses!!! The free stander was such a target. Well done to Alex and the other 3 who managed to knock it over. I could only manage a dink!!!! Having been shooting at MAD for so long I should know what the wind does by now, shouldn't I?!!!!! Looking forward to more fun!
