    Hi All,
Just wanted to check a technical point.
I know that use of any indicators that aren't fixed to the gun is prohibited during a GP or winter league but is it legal to use a Kestrel Wind indicator before the competition starts just to get an indication of the conditions?
    Many thanks in advance
    JJ

Best not to carry it around with you in your bag, etc

I would have thought it would be fine on zero range?.

Bisley winds tend to ignore them though and the flags on Century and Stickleback tend to point in the wrong direction :)

    No need for a Kestrel

What you need is a Bucket filled with Water and a class 1 Parsnip.

Drop the parsnip in the water from a height of 5.4 inches.

If it sinks, wind will be from the right half inch, if it floats, wind will be from the left 21.7mm.

    Hope that helps:D

It will show you bugger all , you'd have been better of spending your hard earned cash on a signed picture of Brian Glover who was a star in the film Kes which featured a Kestrel !

    Or alternatively

    You could try these http://varieties.potato.org.uk/display_description.php?variety_name=Kestrel

and give us the feedback on these bad boys in a roasted or boiled stylee !

With regards to showing you results Springer34 my little broccoli floret ...... It won't tell you were to aim on the tin chicken !

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Shaun,
I know people will think I'm wasting my time, which I don't mind and can handle the mickey take. But I didn't want people to think me a cheat so I thought I should ask.

The use of a Kestrel is basically watching Kes prior to shooting some tin chickens

They are handheld 'weather stations' - you can get a read out of wind speed, temperature, humidity, air pressure and density-altitude. Come in useful on the 1000yd range for F-Class :)

Yes they can tell you exactly what the environmental conditions and wind speed are on the zero range. :eek:o

They are also excellent indicators of when and how your wooden stock warps in various different environmental conditions that result in POI shifts! ;) Ask Roberto Farnworth I think he is selling his you may get a good 2nd hand deal :)

Very true I cant see the point as as when you do it prior to getting on a lane conditions change so it really is of no use but if its legal gl to whoever wants to use it,if jj clears a couse think we will all be getting one!!:D

Rather than using an expensive electrical device and compiling readings , records and graphs you could try using a seasoned air dried broad bean straticically mounted onto your windicator arm using a fine length of Unicorn mane then monitor the rotations of the bean in varying wind conditions .
