I first saw a John Oslter Air Stripper around October 2011, sat on the end of Andrew Gillots Gun.

Price at the time for what was then the mk1 version was £120. That was a little bit too off putting at the time as I was only just about to switch over to exacts full time and knew pellet testing would reap bigger rewards initially.

Pellets now sorted, so when my Good friend ( well he pretends) Justin Wood said he had a mk2 Ostler Air stripper being fitted, I was very interested. Young Mr.Wood kindly sent pics and more importantly reported that it definitely made for tighter groups.

All good news. Price was now however £180 as there is quite a bit more work involved than over the mk1.
Seems allot for an air stripper, but in balance perhaps not?
After all I spent £870 on a Gary Cane stock, how many shots per gp do I get for that?

Now I am not the most technical chap but I do understand that if John Ostler says it will work it will work.
I was fortunate enough to visit and see the air stripper in the final stages of assembly and being mounted. all I can say is it was precision and nothing left to a that will do standard. with John its done correctly and thats it!

The Stripper is vented front and back which helps deaden the "blast" and of course produce better accuracy. Each one is hand build and built for a specific Barrel. You cant swap from one barrel to another, unless John Sets it up. For full technical details, Speak to Mr.Ostler!

    Is it Better?
Well without a 50m wind tunnel I had to judge by my usual standards on my usual set up range. Luckily I have done many hours of testing and know what what to expect.
Initially there was wind but groups were very good. Now and again a bit of wind drift spoilt the group, but more so it was due to pilot error.
I very quickly became aware that where the cross hair was placed when I released the pellet, is generally where the pellet would land!

A heavy shower gave way to about 40 minutes of (nearly) still air, perfect. In the short spell of as near perfect (as I am likely to get) conditions outdoors, the results produced were quite obviously far improved on what I would have achieved a few months ago with the standard Air Arms Airstripper fitted.
Instead of just a couple of my different "batches" of exact pellets suiting the barrel and now producing the odd " 1 Hole" groups (almost a Don) almost all the batches I have worked superbly and group after group was very tight.
I settled on die 50 and die 8, which were favorite choice with standard stripper and am now just as happy to use my die 39 and 5. infact none of my batches would have failed my standard grouping test.
One thing of interest was all of the pellets were superb straight from the tin, where as previously this barrel has always liked pellets sized down to 4.50.

So, it works. Worth £180? Yes.
Tighter groups = more hits, maybe only an extra 1 or 2 in a Gp, but that in AA class is vital.
As well as great looks it also produces a very nice and crisp "Crack" which is notably different to the sometimes flat usual Ev2 sound.

    almost a "Don"

These are all 10 shots at 50m. A pulse in my shoulder meant it was me that pulled the odd shot low, left and right pellet strikes were usually just a touch of wind. The groups where 5or more pellets hit the same spot were proof enough to me that the air stripper was doing its Job.

Good enough so that I have ordered another Ostler air stripper, but the next one will be annodised RED

    Simon,

Thought you might have had it anodised to match the gun fella...?

I'll stick to the ones I get made though...

Might polish up the filler cap on this one to match the stripper? Kind of like it Red though as it defines the stripper better??

What a load of cack Mick Tromans has tried every possible combination of muzzle stripper and all they do is make the gun sound and feel different and at half the price they are also made from titanium so it's all down to sound and feel not accuracy , A good barrel and pellet combination is what you need nothing more ........ Regards Dave

Or do you mean targets hit...?

    It's true,

I should have hit more targets here and there but doing you in the euros shoot off has made up for that fella...
Nothing like hard cash bud and £50 extra in the pocket was nice...

    Hope to catch up soon...
