    Hello,

About Me: I am the webmaster of the first French speaking forum FT and HFT.
I am also the oldest French shooter in these disciplines and I'm getting a bit of experience in terms of air rifle. I have two EV2 and one Steyr LG 110 old version.

The Steyr is quite disappointing. after 40 m, accuracy is more like a 12 gauge as a precision air rifle.

I have tried all that is possible to try in terms of tuning:
    Floating barrel
HW 100 Barrel 60 cm long
    55 cm BSA barrel
Air stripper Steyr, rowan, and custom (I will not give you the nameof the manufacturer, but it is well known).
Sanding the ends of the hammer spring
    Adjusting the air regulator
Attaching a barrel weight at its end
Setting all the mechanics in compliance with instructions given by steyr

Looking for the perfect pellet, resizing the pellets
    Etc etc..

In France i'm not alone in this case since the 6 steyr we bought (group of friends) no one shoot straight compared to my 2 EV2 much less compared to the P70 a friend.

    I'll have a depression and i'm not alone.:eek:o

Today, I wish to buy an Anschutz and tune it for FT.

What do you advise me? 8002, 2002 or other model ? ( 9003 is to expensive for me)
what about the minimum cost of a good tuning for these rifles. ( 12 ftlb + custom weaver bridge+ ...??)

    Thanks for your answers:)

    Robert

That sounds very odd considering all the things you have tried - especially the new barrel.

6 Steyr's and none of them putting in a good group at 40m?

    I have a few questions...
    • What pellets have you tried?
    • Have you tried cleaning the barrel thoroughly (VFG system or similar)
    • What size group are you getting? - I'm sure it can't be as bad as a shotgun pattern - perhaps your expectations are too high?
    • Is the group a random spread or is there a pattern to it - high/low etc?

Try using the scope you have on you EV. Either that or the pellets don't suit the barrel(s).
Strange, probably best to use your EV for FT if the Steyr is not grouping but there is clearly something wrong perhaps Steyr's just don't France!

Robert if you can wait for September and send me the rifle and barrels I can try to sort it out, I'm no tuner but have the basic tools and know how. If you prefer you can send me only the barrels.

I also will go for the pellets at Millau I gave some batches to Christophe but I don't know if he found a good for his barrel.

    Thanks all for your answers;)
Brian, i have tried AA 4,52, JSB Exact 4,52, JSB Express and H&N target field

all in 4,52 direct from Tin, then the same resized to 4,49 then with skirt resized only to 4,59.

Yes I have clean the barrels vith VFG system of course, i have tried to clean with lead remover etc.

the group diameter is pretty good under 40 m but at 50m (55yrds) we have sometimes 3/4 inches group with 5/6 pellets and just after 2/3 pellets 2 inches away some on the rigth some on the left. (3 différent shooters with the same rifle in Sitting possition or bench, no wind at all)

we have no explaination for that

if I shoot directly after or in the same time (in parallel with a friend) with my EV2, with the same climatics conditions no problem it's perfect:eek:o

BSA Barrel ( old model from leupy's) offer the best group then the HW no far away behind and le last the Steyr barrel which cant group better than 2 inches at 55 yrds range.

We must not be alone in this case because if i take a look on some photo on the web, I can see a lot of customs with différent Barrels and air stripper.

Any way it's not the question , I've passed to other solution: Buy an anschutz or any other rifle but another Steyr no way for me:shot::eek:o

What do you thinh about anschutz 8002 or other model.
The fein P70 is very accurate but to heavy (barrel to long Ithink) In france we say ""heavy as a dead donkey":)

Conor, yes i have tried to swap the scope with EV2 scope;)
Miguel, Thank's for your offer but i stop my investigations (2 years to drag the burden is too much for me);)

    One more question, your velocity?

It looks like the dreaded curse, your Steyr dislikes France the only other place it dislikes also is Liverpool.

    hello conor

The velocity is set to 238m/s max for AA field 4,52 ==> 15,4 joules

i have tried to reduce to 234 m/s ==>15 joules ( but only 30 shoots)

the BSA dislike the express and like AA
    Steyr barrel prefer express

I agree with you,our Steyr dislike France.

Put like that, it could be thought that I missed something. If it was a Daystate I will say that there is a bug inside lol.

last question, What is the group that can be obtained regularly with a Steyr (old model) to 50 m range (indoors)

:eek:o I DO NOT live in Liverpool! And since increasing the velocity from 760fps to 785fps floating the barrel, degreasing the internals, polishing the spring ends and replacing the firing valve my Steyr is now behaving itself :p seriously since increasing the velocity it's been perfect.

    Here you go,

21mm group (edge to edge), 10 shots indoor at 50m sitting FT style. I pulled one off

Outer circle is 37mm, black circle is 17.5mm, 1 cent coin for your reference. 770fps JSB Exact 8.4 grn.

I ain't the best at grouping but it should be able to hit a 25mm target every time at 50m (with correct wind judgement).

Had the same problem with my Styer.
Sorted now fitted new external adjustment system, new reg came with set. all fitted.

Then started using 7.9 express pellets, first jsb's then the new air arms express 7.9's.
I clean the barrel after every shoot just a light spray on 1 then 3 clean pull through's.
This has given me one hole groups up to 40yds and groups within 15mm - 20mm at 50yds plus.

    Hope this helps.
