I know I know, pellets selection is one of those topics that goes round and round, but, to explain I am new to spring guns, yes I've had a few in the past including a Whiscombe, but this is the first time I have seriously contemplated shooting a spring gun in competition, and the testing I have done so far has proved how different batch testing pellets with a spring gun is when compared to a pcp, so in order to maybe just take a little of the time and cost out of the whole process, can anyone give me a starting point.

Presently I am using some 2015 JSB Diablo's, die 11. These were bought for my Walther Dominator and have proved to be pretty good for the HW97 as well, but, sooner or later I am going to have to start again, so.....

Are you going to be shooting HFT or FT with it Neil? Makes no odds to pellet choice, I'm just curious as I'm thinking of doing HFT with mine next year....possibly...maybe! Anyway I've got a 97 and from what I recall I think it prefered lighter pellets over the heavies I normally use which is handy as I have about 30 tins of 7.9s in the shed gathering dust.
We only need to convert one other Shebbear shooter and we'd have a team!

    Too kind.

I'll just keep banging away with these die 11's until they are gone.

I don't mind pellet testing, I just kind of resent having to spend a fortune on pellets I don't want in order to find the ones I do.

Plus, with this 97 I have the delight of trying to figure out the bad pellets from the bad shooting.

For some reason my 97 in .177 absolutely loved H+N field target trophys(4.52) whereas any of my other guns were happiest on jsb exacts. N0 other guns 'tolerated' the H+Ns but the hw97 just loved them. Just my 2p.

That's interesting as I have found that all the H&N's I have tried are true to size-ish, at least more true to size than JSB made pellets, and my HW77 shoots H&N Sniper Mediums really well. I will make a point of trying them and some FTT's through the 97 too, thanks.

My HW97K isn't pellet fuzzy at all, every batch of JSB is doing quiet alright. But some batches give better groups than others, but still all groups are pretty narrow. I know someother HW97K which do not like JSB but do better with H&N FFT, so just try and see what works the best.
