Advice. The best pistol for hft
Steyr Evo, I have the LP50, but for HFT there is no advantage in having a 5 shot mag fed gun.
What power is your steyr putting out
It's easily adjustable, so in theory anything legal, in practise I've it set around 4.5fpe as I get more shots and only shoot to about 20m max.
I can do 80 shots on the course before I need to swap cylinders, and this is the "compact" version:
Going to start saving my penny's me thinks
Can you single pellet load or do you have to use the magazine
A number of my club members use hw44 with some success
You have to use the mag, but you can just load one pellet and it's super repeatable, a perfect fit. In practice for the course we shoot for fun we load 4 at a time as we shoot two shots at each target as there are two spinners per post, it just makes easy counting although we still end up blank firing
Steyr also make single pellet mags for these.
LP50 was my first 'proper' target pistol when I started around 2015. Gave the RCO a shock at Bisley with it when they realised I was shooting with the 5 shot mag even though I was lowering it between shots. I then went to the single shot mag and carried on. Left the firing point in about 23 minutes IIRC (for a 60 shot course of fire). Didn't win on the day but made it to the national final there all the same! I shoot the Steyr Evo E now and I've slowed it down a tad to about 30 minutes now!
I've never shot pistol HFT, got some knockdown targets I could put up in the garden. Anyone got a link to a set of rules/ranges?? Also is it always shot with optics? Open sights I'll be sorted at 10m and 20 yards
Thanks for the info. I'll have to save a bit longer and get one. Waste of time buying a lesser pistol and then having to upgrade to a steyr later
I just do it with the wife for fun, only rules are basic, one shot per target and no leaning on anything. On the last outing I done the course 8 times over two hours and got 6 x 18/20, 1 x 19/20 and 1x 20/20, the range varies from about 4m to about 20m with most around the 15/18m mark. It's just casual fun for me, I'm sure with a bit of pressure it would see me losing another couple of point per round if watched
