Son has an assignment to gather some data on one of the Olympic disciplines, he wants to do Shooting, the homework I believe is about how they process the data not the data itself so typical values will be fine but I would like the values to be realistic. He wanted to do projectile speed.

I don't know much about the kit they use so could do wit a bit of help, for the following, Pistol, Rifle, Air Pistol, Air Rifle.

Was thinking of trying to get, caliber which was easy, typical projectile weight, and projectile speed, anyone help a little, or lot.

10m air rifle is around 550-580 with an 8.2 gn pellet... think air pistol is a slightly lighter pellet about 7- 7.5 i think they do about 3 ft-lb which puts it at about 450 fps, but not 100% on the air pistol thing...

.22 rifile as in the firearm type is generally around 1000 fps. Projectile weight is I believe about 40gn. Don't know about .22 Pistol firearm.

    Thanks for the help.

Found a thread that said minimum for pistol was 39gn and 820 fps for Rapid fire, guess 50 m will be similar call it 40 Gen and 800 fps for nice round numbers.

Remember to convert weights to gramms and velocity to metres/sec, metric madness prevails in school these days!

May I suggest you look on the NSRA website www.nsra.co.uk. They are the governing body for 10m in this country. You could also contact them on info@nsra.co.uk.

Thanks for the link will have a look, we don't need the data to be perfect but me being an engineer can't just throw arbitrary numbers in there.

When I shot 0.22 rim fire target pistol I used cartridges with 40 grain bullets running around 850-900 feet per second.
