Hi all I am returning to HFT after a long time away, I only shot before now and again and fir a little fun but want to come back and take it seriously now.. . well as long as the bank balance allows :). Can anyone recommend what type of rifle is good nowadays. I had a TM1000 when they first came over here and want to stay PCP, I've seen the AA Ultimate sportster, my budget is around 750. I would like adjustable cheek pad is possible thanks in advance all :)

You would be able to get a second hand HFT500 or EV2 with your budget. Both great rifles.

Might be tighter, if you have to factor in scope and bottle or pump, in that budget 750.

For that budget I would go with ev2 better trigger than a HFT 500.

I have both the hft500 and an ev2. Trigger is better on the ev2 but I have to say that the 500 is very very nice. It is a bit lighter even with the air arms hamster. Easy to position and use and for me it groups just a little more consistently, but I think that is me as the ev2 is new to me and I need time with it.

Hi Chris, welcome back to hft shooting. For your budget there are a number of very good second hand guns that would produce good results. Any of the earlier Air Arms guns such as RN10, or Pro target would be good if i good condition, next would be the S400 mpr, a very capable gun but not often up for sale. Any mark of the EV2 would be good again if in good condition. More recent additions such as hft500 should be on the short list. I'm not sure about the stock of the Ultimate Sporter if it will provide all of the adjustment needed it too should be on the short list. Slightly dearer than your current budget and not often up for sale is the ftp900 now considered a good gun for hft and ft.

I don't think I can think of other guns that I have used that I would be happy to recommend but I am sure others will offer their views but good luck with whatever you buy.

Hi again Chris, I don't know exactly where your location is but I have just seen that Staffordshire Custum Airguns have a pair of hft500's for sale at just £50 over your budget, the advantage is that you can buy confidently knowing that the guns have been checked over and serviced if needed.

I have no connection with SCR other than a satisfied customer. URL Air Rifles and Air Guns from Staffordshire Custom Rifles
