Can I just check on a rule?

In Ft, I have been told that prone is leagal, however, would I be correct in thinking that the but end of the rifle can not touch the ground and you are not allowed to support your non trigger hand with the use of a peg or the ground?

    Thanks

    Gary

shooting off the elbows only Gary, unsupported. and that's if you can see the target. It's easier to learn the FT sitting position which is quite stable. You will find scope position is quite different to prone though.

I would say that's about right Gary, no part of the gun is allowed to touch the ground, pegs aren't a feature on FT courses anyway mate so that's not an issue, you can't rest on natural objects either mate.. trees etc... you're quite right, prone is legal as the rules state it's "Freestyle", but there's a reason why everyone sits on beanbags.. it's more stable, much the same as in HFT, everyone shoots prone for the same reason, it's the most stable position with the peg to rest on.:)

Thanks for that guys, I have been working with both types of shooting for Sunday and at the moment, my prone shots from the Elbow are more stable then sitting.

I shall continue to practise the sitting element though:D

    Hi Gary
You are looking forward to Sunday, I can tell.:)
As this is an FT comp the course will be set out for sitting, kneeling and standing.
You can of course go prone off your elbows, unsupported, if you wish.
It might be that some targets will not be seen from the prone position so I would suggest that you keep practicing the seated position.:D
Look forward to seeing you on Sunday
    cheers
    Barry

There are a couple of pictures here that have shooting donw in the prone position which I think show the 'legal' position correctly. They are about half way down the pictures.

Now that's just mean :D:D:D As the person who called that target, I didn't laugh much at all ;);)

Of course that fact that we had him back down to the bottom again a few minutes later wasn't funny either :D

When the rules say no support as far as i understand it you MAY use the bean bag under the chest to support the back when prone . as you will know if dopper uses the wooded area shooting UPHILL . it is very difficult to stop your self sliding back down when sitting on the bean bag if wet . i know cos i fell off mine in the winter league . as i said in one of NJRs posts if we get a lot of uphill shots . i will go prone , rather than slip slide away ??? That's one for the chief Marshall. Think the body should be unsupported myself because I've never seen anyone use a bag.

The rule quite clearly states(12) SEATING
The maximum height for any form of seating is 4 inches (100 mm), including any backrest. Bean-bags should be measured when flattened between 2 boards. The seat may be used as an aid to sitting, kneeling, or standing shots using the above rules but for no other purpose.) Mr P

In that case mr P i shall take my shovel and dig a nice pit to shoot in ? here hang on . i feel a disability coming on ??? HOLLY:D:cool::eek:
PS interesting though cos looking at the new rules , there is nothing in it about standing on the bean bag if on a slope to bring you back to a level stance . that will be handy there .
