Catch/safety lever is stopping the breach closing with the spring pushing over and resisting the cocking lever closing fully.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to fix it or why it's on the squits. I'm sure it's not barrel depth that is causing it.

Would really welcome any and all ideas

the barrel needs setting with the correct pressure, its not a five minute job its trail and era matey losen allen bolts off then lean on the barrel with a bit of weight and only tighten rear allen bolt, try cocking,if closes ok tighten bother bolt, keep trying till bolt fully closes and gun cocks ok,the barrel is designed to hold cocking arm with the correct pressure:):):)the squilts is the dry fire release the air matey its total normal this will stop when the barrel is set and gun will fire go on try this site http://www.steyr-sportwaffen.at/movies/

Thanks very much Chris you were spot on and I was wrong :)

Been watching the videos all week and I had tried a long time to get it right just hadn't appreciated the tolerance was quite so fine.

I shall know for next time and it's been a useful experience to strip the gun down, great how easy it is to access the main action, valve and reg.

Couldn't agree more Chris, many a man has ruined a perfectly good Steyr by tinkering! Bet Harry P's phone has been red hot since those videos went up!
