Cambridge HFT results Feb. 9th 2014

Despite the apocalyptical winds and rains of the preceding days the shoot was a remarkably civilised affair. The ground wasn’t half as badly saturated as we feared; clearly the jet-force winds had managed to dry things out quite nicely, and it was a nice bright, if somewhat breezy day. Okay, the wind was brisk at best and at worst… whistles were blown as hats and full sized range mats took off and careered across the open fields. Bit tricky then, but strangely enjoyable and most shooters were still smiling by the end of it, unless that was facial cramp from the wind. It’s not often we have gusts strong enough to literally take your breath away. For that teeny tiny finger target in the field I abandoned the reticule markings in favour of imperial for windage; about 3ft6”in total.

Congratulations to Keith W who after a tensely fought 5 rounds has emerged as victor of the “Phoenix Challenge”. I don’t think there were 4 points in total between us, but he kept his nerve to seize an impressive victory and overall title today. ;)
Our thanks to all those who braved the day and we hope to see you for a rather more climatically sedate shoot on Feb 23rd.

Seems that wind is a great leveller. Personally I'm delighted (over the moon, frankly) to have done "the triple": beat Anne in the Phoenix Challenge, won the .22 comp against some really good shooters, and won a bonus bunny besides. And our not very modern but really great looking and fantastically performing rifles outshot quite a few newer and fancier ones (even in .177). Hmm.

Of course, it'll all be different next time ...

You know Colin, that's exactly what I thought. Although I think I probably thought it louder!

    Thanks!
