I'm sure this has and always will be banded about, but, what are peoples thoughts on calibres for hunting, do you use .177cal or a .20cal or .22cal or bigger?

    .177 for me at 12ft-lb

It gives less room for error with ranging, it's about the same on windage, and it's cheaper. Generally I'm more concerned with hitting the quarry in an accurate way for a clean kill, everything else is secondary.

I think it's pretty hard work with 12ft-lb. I'm not happy going further than 30 or so yds.

    177 all the way

I now only have .177 rifles. They do the job !! Hunting, target shooting or plinking.
As Rob said they are more forgiving with regards to range estimation too.

Here you go pal, http://www.airgunbbs.com, it's been done to death in there, resurrected and discussed several more times again.

In here you'll find all info on target shooting disciplines.

    Welcome aboard,
    If it's an use I use .22...with a 21grn pellet running at 850fps ;)

.177 does it all and is a more forgiving calibre in terms of accuracy compared to .22 I think over the recent years with HFT etc .177 is becoming the more popular calibre.
