Hi, most bubble levels seem to clamp onto the rail, or the mounts.

I have alligned my scope with the barrel using the mirror method, so in reality it matters not where the dovetails, or mounts are.

I thought about a bubble level that clamped round the scope tube to get perfect alignment, but there dosnt seem to be too many of these in existance, thus do people just shim the rail bubble?

I would prefer to clamp the bubble to the scope tube if there is an ideal type?

    Thanks - Geoff.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I would appreciate details of how this is done... PM me or Ill start another thread, but this statement interests me. Thanks DaveR

I've found the cheap dovetail mounted levels move when tightened, they are basically useless. I do mount my scopes with two small square spirit levels as best as I can, and I can also see how miss aligned mounts and dovetails could cause the issues. (and now have more crap to think about:eek:) I've also read the other thread posted above with interest as I experience this sometimes, but swap guns each time I'm at the range so kind of blame that! My thinking was that pellets "spiral" in flight, and so a zero at say 30m is fine, but at 35m the pellet is at a different part of it's spiral flight path, so may be slightly right, and slowly work it's way round an imaginary clock face as the distance increases till it gets back to the vertical position further down range, although obviously at a lower impact point by now?

I've seen this is spiral slowmo video and thought it was common - am I just wrong, is my (slight TBF:rolleyes:) issue cant?

I bought a few from a China seller for less than £2 each.
One had a damaged thread but the others were fine

The spiral flight can happen but if your pellets do it, buy new pellets! Or new barrel. Or both.

It is a sign the pellets are unstable in flight. Accuracy will be poor, the BC will be poor, so they’ll drop more at long range and take more wind.
