bluing/blacking

    Evening all i need some advice pls,im looking to have my barrel blacked,now i no this may seem odd but my barrel is black is this the same thing ??? bluing-- blacking ,and where can i get it done
    any info would be great

    Colin at Manchester gets my vote, used him loads of times, always quality work, he is only in the shop mon,tues,wed and sat. shop is open every day though!

    spoke to collin today and arranged for barrel to go up monday sounds like a real nice fella
    and also seems fair prices too :)
    will keep you posted on the work he does :)

    Bluing and Blacking are the same process. As I understand it, the better the job the darker the colour.

    If you want your barrel very dark, have it anodized, speak to Guy as he has a contact who did his rifle barrel

    you cant anodize steel, only aluminium, there is a difference between bluing and blacking, modern guns are blacked using modern blacking salts, bluing is done by a rusting process using all sorts of dangerous chemicals, used to do it on older guns, muzzle loaders ect, but not good for your health, but used to impart a blue tinge into the steel, looked good but lots more work.
