Who is one, and what qualification do you have, and are you interested in furthering it or renewing it?

    Hi Rob

i think im one, did the course at Shebear with Rich, Alec and a few others and you popped along on the second day, what was told to us on the course was if you were to help/coach someone within the period before the certificate expired it could be renewed with out further courses im sure rich can clarify that.

My BFTA/GBTSF/NSRA club coach & Instructors qualification ran out at the start of the year.

I didn't bother renewing it as I've hardly every been called on to put it into practise

I'm looking into that, but that sounds about right for instructors, coaches may differ. I don't expect though that anyone would need to redo a course.

I'll see if the BFTA can survey the clubs as well.

The purpose of the thread is to find out what resources we have out there for training.

The other course in 2005 or 2006, the records aren't so easy to find, but the names I have are:

    Dave Cooling
    Rob Farnworth
    Richard Chasemeore
    Richard Guscott
    Dave Golby
    Daz Ford
    Paul Tithecott
    Phil Borley
    Roz Harding
    Nigel Gilpin

All these courses were to club instructor level. I renewed my qualification in 2008 after five years on payment of a tenner. To renew you have to show that you have used the qualification to instruct others, not just to benefit yourself.

Also to get a certificate you have to have either a BFTA number (about £4) or be a NSRA member (nearer £70) and you can choose. Either way the certificate costs a tenner for the processing costs.

Something else that sometimes is misunderstood. Getting this qualification does NOT make you your club's instructor. The club has to appoint you. It's a bit like having a driving licence, it doesn't make me the club's driver, but without it they couldn't appoint me.

I've been putting a list together for a 2011 club instructor course here at Shebbear, following the success of the 2009 format. I'm waiting for confirmation of the availability of the school room that we used for the theory stuff - and for the lunches of course!

Been in touch with NSRA and we can probably have Bob Dickie again, the Olympic team coach, I think that's right, if it's slightly wrong then sorry Bob. :)

Cuurently there are about a dozen names on the draft list which makes it commercially viable.

If you pop over to the NSRA website there is a section on the hierarchy of training levels that we can all aspire to.

I did a fair bit of coaching when I was in HM Forces I would be interested in a coaching course just to get back up to speed so to speak as I finished in HM Forces in 1996
