    Percentage for me

Cracking report Shaun, even if I did have to google some of the words
I think Mr Taylor's score fully deserved his 4 point lead over Dan, after all the old system would have only put him 2 up on Dan.
He may of trashed some of the other AA scores but from the sounds of your report both sessions had similar conditions.
Dito for the return to Avon Hawks ,was a real breath of fresh air from a club that I imagine has a very small membership.

Percentage rewards an incredible effort, not only did ian win, and do it in style, the reward was to gap everyone else by reducing everyone elses %. The way forward is not to punish good performance, its upto others to up their game to the level ian showed on sunday.

That's pretty much the wrong way around tho, working off the % of the top shooter pretty much falsely inflates every single score under what they scored. So, not only are you shooting against the course but the best in the country as well. When is 33/50 not 66%? When 100% is 49 (67.34%)!

Of course you are shooting against the best in the country, thats the whole point of a national comp isnt it? :)

To be honest Dave, I'd rather just shoot against the course than have a falsely inflated %, the irony in a sport about accuracy isn't lost on me tho.

Brilliant report on an excellent GP and venue. Enjoyed the course and thought the layout was great. I know some think the flat shooting positions are not a good idea but I think they worked well here.

    Excellent report to read.

I think I was the only one to miss target 1. Went over the plates of 49 & 50 so was sure I had gone a turn out. However it was just me as I dinked Target 1 on the bolt under the kill by abut 3". Nope was not a turn out it seems.

A superb course that confused me all over the place. When they have the next GP there I am definitely going again.

    Great write up Shaun.
Agree re %: we've scored that way in our SEFTA leagues for as long as I can remember. It gives more of a context to your performances at a given shoot and rewards people for going above and beyond; as Ian did on Sunday.
Keep up the good work :)

It doesn't take anything away from Ian, far from it, I just don't get why you'd do it that way in a sport about accuracy.

For example, reverse engineer this rolling 20 and tell me how many targets I hit:

    55.2/71/70.6/48.2/62.9/67.6/50/82/62.9/57.5/67.5/40/63.8/85.1/76.3/56.6/48.6/50/80/62.9

    You can't!

Now look at this chart, this show the difference between shooting against just the course and against the course and top shooter. Look at the advantage, almost 5%, enough to put you up :)

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EhOeB3CmZvY29SfWmqyqNzagZ0H0rqTD6kytdHDygjQ/edit?usp=sharing

And all that is before using Mean as an Average. My view isn't really a popular one tho :)

I guess if you wanna talk about it we should start another thread.
