As this was the first year that the BFTA has used percentage for points I thought I'd have a look at what this season's results would look like with the old points system (in brackets)

    AA grade
    1st John Costello (John Costello)
    2nd Andrew Gillott (Neil Daniels)
    3rd Neil Daniels (Andrew Gillott)
    4th Mark Bassett (Mark Bassett)
    5th James Osborne (James Osborne)
    6th Andy Calpin (Simon Evans)
    7th Andras Fekete-Moro (Andy Calpin)
    8th Jack Harris (Stuart Hancox)
9th Simon Evans (Tied so 9th and 10th: Andras Fekete-Moro and Jack Jarris)
    10th John Lee

    A grade
    All 10 places the same

    B grade
    1st Paul Dunwoody (Paul Dunwoody)
2nd Craig Corbett (tied so 2nd and 3rd: Craig Corbett and Tom Gould)
    3rd Debbie Clarke
    4th Tom Gould (Debbie Clarke)
    5th Steve Grimshaw (Lori Richardson)
    6th Jerry Dowdall (Steve Grimshaw)
    7th Lori Richardson (Steve Chubb)
    8th Andrew Slade (Jerry Dowdall)
    9th Steve Chubb (Simone Callan)
    10th Len Maule (Andrew Slade)

i prefere the % over the old points system.

However, i personally would prefere targets hit to anything else. all rounds to count.

Seems no real point in doing all 9 rounds in future with todays traveling costs? Hopefully we will try one Double header next year to help with that?

As many have said though Shaun, thanks for your superb work once again.

Targets hit falls flat if you attend a hard gp and I go to one that's easier.

Percentages seemed a welcome change but think points do it more justice as they reward the winning shooter or those ahead of the curve. And I say that having lost 12 by missing one shot and being 2 off winning.
Percentages may edge the more consistent shooter up but if you want your name in lights then really it doesn't matter and you just need to be thinking about flattening all 50

the idea is Rob, that with all rounds to count, it rewards those attending and making the Gp series full.

Same as they have in F1, World Ft etc.

Percentages for me all the way.

It's the fairest scoring system if not all of the rounds count (best 6 from 9)

    Interesting comparison, Shaun.

My only thought is that when there is a %age difference of less than 0.01% (e.g. 0.05 as a percentage of 581 is 0.0086%) between two it is perhaps too small. Perhaps consider a future method which relies less on such a small mathematical difference by adding in a secondary way of splitting the two (or three, etc) when they are within 0.1% (no idea what but total targets or drop highest and lowest or rather than count 6 best count all to give a better split, etc, etc). Did the points system have similar too close to call conclusions?

Whichever way there may still be years when two people are just too hard to split and you have a joint 2nd or such. And of course, too complicated a system just makes way too much work for you and the team (again many thanks for all the work). Whatever - that was the system everyone started out with so as Rob said above - "you just need to be thinking about flattening all 50"

It was fascinating to see the way that the final positions could change in each grade though. Huge thanks to all who contributed to making the events happen.

    Cheers
    Neil

The problem with that is if anyone csnnot make one round due to work / family or illness then not much point doing anymore as you have already lost ;)

Percentage & 6 out of 9 is very fair IMO.

Neil, one problem with points was that shoot offs for end of season places was common; there were no shoot offs needed this year. I expect it is unlikely that shooter would tie.that it was close meant a shot here or there meant a change overall; I liked that!
On Sunday there were 9 AA shooters who could have won. I found it exciting but then I dol like some data.

I have no plan to propose a change.

    percentage for me

I think the idea of includeing all round's is wrong.[6 from 9 is fine]
What happens if you decide to take your family on a holiday?
And has for GP double header's:mad:
If it's full shoot's you want, then why not try and get more than three C grader's to shoot the series?

    Percentage

Percentage for me. Same as this year were best six count. Keeps it tight at the top and allows for people to miss 3 for what ever reason. Percentage also rewards the best shot on the day and it not attendenced base as the last points system was. :)
