Portishead Shooting club have their annual Bench Rest comp on the 8th & 9th March, aptly named Brass Monkeys, shot on the Portishead outside airrifle range:

    http://www.portisheadshootingclub.co.uk/competitions/index.html

There are two air rifle disciplines, the hunter is also known as LV (light varmint) with a weight limit of 10.5 lbs and the Unlimited, also known as HV (heavy varmint) with a weight limit of 15lb.

Max power 12 ft lb, front and rear rest allowed and scope can be any magnification.

Two details per class, 25m targets, picture of targets attached. Contact Ken: ken@tis-uk.co.uk for further info.

Hope to see some new faces there.

    Hi Ian

Portishead is a live ammo and air club so the comp is split over two days over its three ranges.

Ken normally puts the Hunter on the Saturday and the Unlimited on the Sunday, so you can shoot one of those classes on the one day.

Here is the link to the entry form itself: http://www.portisheadshootingclub.co.uk/competitions/downloads/2014%20Brass%20Monkey%20entry%20form.pdf

The air classes follow the traditional live ammo classes - see these set of rules (when you got 20 mins to spare ): http://www.erabsf.org/ERABSFRules.htm

I know there is a desire to simplify Air Rifle Bench Rest into 2 simple classes in the UK:

Sporter - A sporter air rifle (for example a Air Arms S400 or HW100 in their factory stock) with a scope magnification of maximum 12x, combined weight max 10 1/2 lb

HV - target rifle or modified sporter with unlimited magnification scope combined max weight of 15 lb

Obviously the power limit for both will remain 12 ft lb maximum.

At the moment Air Rifle Bench Rest in the UK generally runs along side Rimfire Bench Rest. This means that normally the clubs who shoot it are live firing clubs with an air section.

There may come a time soon Ian where Air Rifle Benchrest enthusiasts seek out a way to be more inclusive to the clubs that shoot Air only.
