Just picked up this link from a photography forum and I thought it might be of interest.

    rain drops

I reckon the 'it must have hit a raindrop' could well be a valid excuse after all:D

As snow is forecast I wonder..........;)

I have only ever seen it happen once before - it was many years ago at Ponty when I was watching someone shoot the silhouettes. The raindrop exploded - it was quite a sight :)

I honestly thought it would be something that you would see more often but from talking to people it is very rare.

I saw it happen at East Devon last year.
I was staring into space about 10 - 12 yards out into the lane while my shooting partner prepared to shoot a full size kill at about 35 yards (sitting)
It was raining, but there were also some extra large drops falling from the trees. As he fired I saw a flash of "steam" from the pellet hitting a water droplet right where I was staring and it deflected his pellet enough for it to miss the faceplate completely!
I guess an unlucky insect could cause the same sort of deflection?

    Atb,

    Alec.
