hi i have floated the barrel on my ev2 and am really surprised @ the results
I Prefere the original cap and stripper.
i was going to mod the original stripper but wanted to keep it original so could be put back to original if needed.. before i did the mod it didnt group that well at all... but now the grouping is much better its like shooting 2 differant guns
yes all the same pellets : 7.33 grain jsb express rs . ranges from 8 to 55 yards ! gun shoots at around 800 fps
I have floated my EV2 barrel and the results have been much better,
it has also been regulated by dave welham which has made the most difference!
Here is what i have done on mine
looks nice mate ! did u notice a significant differance in the grouping after thr mod ??
Yes!, especially over longer distances, 45yds sub 20mm groups!
i coiuld not believe the differance it made to mine !! so if anyone is interested in having their ev2 modded pm me for info !!!!!
well if anyone thinks filling a long cylinder like the Ev2 with 200+ bar is not going to distort it they must be true optomists!
Floating the barrel on my sons MPR cured the grouping issue it had I can imagine how much improvement you would get on an EV2, only problem with Air Arms is they use quite flimsy barrels unlike HW's 16mm diameter!
Are the 2 extra grub screws drilled into the breach to support the barrel necessary, or can it be floated without those. Obviously there's mixed views with regard's people floating the barrel on the EV2, and as mentioned, the AirArms barrels are all flimsy up to other guns that are floated, but I'm not knocking the fact that some do float there's, but if it did make a difference, then wouldn't AirArms distribute the EV2 with a floating barrel, and not fixed down.
I was thinking of doing mine, but the flimsyness puts me off, and the fact that they don't come out of the factory floated, so there must be a reason for this.
Air Arms started with a non free floated barrel on the Pro Target and finally got round to floating it after a few years. Give them time
Intresting point the wall thickness is a whole 1mm differnt to the thick steyr barrels, with regard to free floating the MK1,2 and 3 some of them where not brilliant and free floating them did improve consistency not accuracy but i have not seen a mk4 that is not spot on.
the barrel does flex but when released does go back into position ! i'm thinking that the barrels are very strong ie u wouldnt bend one over your knee
Sounds to me then, that unless I mod mine and have extra grub screws drilled into the breach to secure the barrel at the breach end once floated, then if it's shooting ok and I'm hitting 20 and 40 mil targets out from 5 to 55 yards, then it's best left alone.
if ure shooting 40 mm targets @ 55 yards then repetavly ure ev2 sounds fine ! but mine was not if i fired at a paper target @ 55 yards the shots were all over the shop
Yeh on a relalively windless day, i can knock the 40mm duck resetting targets up and down say 75% of the time bench rested.
to test ure ev2 you need a paper target at 55 yards (indoors idealy) bench rest the gun and shoot 5 shots for centre, then check the circle size needed to just cover the grouping ( i use coins )
It is just the 7yd standers you have a problem with lol
Oh you crack me up Ging, All dialings and groupings now sorted, after 4 hours at the club today and shooting of 150 pellets.
( £1 paid and signed in) lol, sorry private club joke
