My barrel has just been blacked, not had any rust issues in or out, and it has had quite a few soakings.

I also swapped out the barrel with a LW blank machined to fit my Steyr.

a pal of mine had an HFT500, he had a go with my Steyr........he now has a Steyr.
I have the ffp version, the glass is very very good! Just put it on my gun to try over the wintertime see if I like it better than the 2-10x32
I shoot at 10x myself but the depth of field on the vortex viper is very good anyway
for me my aim points are as follows:
8yds - 1 mil dot
10yds - 3/4
13yds - crosshairs
15yds - 1/4 hold under
20-25 - 1/2 hold under
A very kind chap i know sold me some Rick Arden custom mounts, only 6.5mm high, you could put the feelers out and see if anyone is willing to part...
I used to have BKL low mounts on my setup also, swapped to ultra low and to my surprise it pulled all my aim points in to just under 1.5 mil dots...
